What is a perennial plant?

The literal translation of the name ‘perennial’ gives away its meaning: it means ‘through the years’, and therefore perennials are typically hardy and sometimes even evergreen plants that will live for two, three or more years. Their counterparts are the annual plants. These are plants that complete their life cycle within one year or season: first, they germinate, flower, set seed, and their life cycle ends when they die some weeks or months later. Perennials thus have a longer life cycle. There is another plant category, namely the biennial. The biennial plant is a flowering plant that had a life cycle of two seasons.

Why add perennials to your garden?

As you know, perennials are a beautiful addition to any garden. Colourful and scented flowers bring people joy and cheer and are very attractive for local wildlife and pollinators. Even in the colder and darker months of the year, flowering perennials are the showstoppers of the garden, whether you plant them in a group or as a focal point in a container. From one season to the next, perennials will never go out of style. All the reasons to add some happiness to your garden!

Which perennials suit your outdoor space?

We offer a wide variety of flowering perennials. They come in many different shapes, sizes, colours and blooming periods. Some are at their peak during spring, while others look nicest around fall. When working on your garden design and picking out some perennial plants, think about their differences and how they can complement each other. Since perennials work particularly well in beds and borders, you can use the plants for a wide variety of planting schemes. Choose harmonising foliage colours and incorporate evergreen plants to ensure year-round interest. In general, it’s best to plant perennials in friable soil where their roots can spread. That way, they can establish themselves for the upcoming year. Make sure you plant your perennials in a spot where they can thrive, and you can enjoy them to the fullest:
