Add something exotic to your garden
Going on a holiday without even leaving your home? It sounds absurd, but it’s possible! With our extra mature palms, you can turn any garden into something exotic. Palm trees feel at home in most gardens, no matter how big or small. Even in a formal or modern garden, palm trees can add something unexpected and spectacular. Frost is the biggest threat to palms since palm trees, in their natural environment, never have to worry about the temperature dropping below zero. At Tendercare, we offer you hardy palm trees that you don’t have to worry about. Examples of hardy palm trees are Trachycarpus fortunei, Cordyline australis or Chamaerops humilis. To be on the safe side, make sure you pack your vulnerable palm trees with reed mats, leaves or plastic when winter is on its way. Start with this when it is just below freezing, otherwise, you will be too late.

Protect your palm tree
A palm is a subtropical plant, so it should come as no surprise that palm trees prefer a sunny but sheltered spot in your garden. In addition, you must ensure that the soil drains well. They don’t mind if once or twice you forget to water them, since they are used to drought. Overwatering turns palm fronds yellow and brown. The most well-known palm tree in the UK probably is the Trachycarpus fortunei. It’s one of the hardiest palms. It originates from China and can handle temperatures up to -18 degrees. When planted in a container, make sure you add hydro granules at the bottom and that there are enough holes in the pot so that water can easily find its way out. Otherwise, the roots of your Trachycarpus fortunei will rot. It is essential to water palms in pots even more regularly than palms in the ground. How often depends on the amount of rain that falls. You will find this tree in our 'through the garden gate' category.
