Planting your cactus
Cactuses come in many different shapes, sizes and forms. All in all, it can be stated that they are perfect for a drought-resistant or desert-inspired urban jungle and that they can flourish with the littlest bit of help. Cacti don’t require much maintenance, even water isn’t always required, and are pest- and disease-free. They do prefer a location in the sun. Also, a sloped spot in well-drained soil is preferred. As said, the cactus can take on many forms: from a columnar cactus to a barrel-shaped stem and everything in between. Some of them even carry flowers. One of our favourites is the iconic Echinocactus grusonii, also known as the Golden barrel cactus. It thrives in full sun and is easy to recognize, with its deep ribs bearing yellowish spines and, on mature plants, yellow flowers. Since cacti are evergreen, they are breath-taking year-round.
